Liew Daren (born 6 August 1987 in Kuala Lumpur) is a Malaysian badminton player. Liew was educated at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Midah. He is 178 cm tall and plays in the men's singles.〔http://www.bam.org.my/?option=com_content&view=article&id=144&itemid=111〕 He is ranked World No. 66 by the BWF as of May 2014.
==Career==
At the All England Open 2012, Liew was defeated in the quarter-final by Lee Hyun-il from South Korea. In April 2012, Liew was defeated by Shon Wan-ho in the first round of the 2012 India Open. During the Thomas Cup tournament of the same year, he was defeated by Lin Dan from China, but not before he brought it into a rubber game of 21–17, 9–21 and 5–21.
At the 2012 Singapore Open, he made it into the quarter-finals but was defeated by Nguyen Tien Minh after besting Lee Hyun-il and Alamsyah Yunus from Indonesia. In September 2012, he was beaten by Sourabh Varma in the first round of the 2012 China Masters Open. In Yonex Open Japan, he was once again beaten by Nguyen Tien Minh in the second round.
At the 2012 Denmark Open, he was stopped at the quarter-finals after being beaten by Lee Chong Wei, the world-ranked 1st player at the time. His best performance was during the Yonex French Open, where he won his first Super Series title on 28 October 2012 after beating Viktor Axelsen from Denmark with the scores of 21–18 and 21–17. In the Li Ning China Open 2012, he was defeated by Gao Huan from China. For the 2012 Hong Kong Open, he was beaten by Chen Long from China during the second round, but not before besting Indonesian player Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka. He also participated in the 2012 Super Series Master Finals .
In 2013, Liew was left out of the South Korea open because of lack of fitness. Liew then qualified for the quarter finals of the Malaysia Open but was beaten by Jan O Jorgensen.
The 2014 Thomas Cup finals saw Liew facing off against Takuma Ueda from Japan in a gripping battle to break the tie between Malaysia and Japan, who were even at 2–2 as they entered the decisive third Men's Singles match.
